Unique Access Control Options for Your Business

Access control is an essential part of security for your business. It helps protect your assets, employees, and clients from theft, which can prove disastrous.

Today we’re going to be talking about access control in its many forms and why you need to invest in the proper solutions. Let’s take a look.

What is Access Control?

Whether you know it or not, you’re probably already using access control, though it may be an analog version. A key, for example, is a form on access control. It provides certain parties (people who are holding the key) access to different areas of your business.

However, as technology becomes more and more sophisticated, your options for access control are much more varied and can be more effective.

At the end of the day, a key can be easily copied and traditional locks can be picked.

What Kinds of Access Control Can I Use?

  • Key Fob Access Control
Key fobs are little piece of hardware that has built-in authentication data. When the key fob is applied to the access point, usually a black authentication reader. The fob will generate new codes periodically to help improve security. Usually the code regenerates every 30-60 seconds.
  • Access Number Panels
Access number panels are security panels that take the input of a numerical code. You can assign specific code to each employee and give varying levels of access to each of them. This can actually help you keep track of who is coming and going specifically. If there is a breach in security, you can also trace the breach back to the code used and narrow down how the breach occurred.
  • Biometric Scanners
Biometric scanners allow access based on fingerprints or other biological data such as an eye. These access control devices are great for maintaining the utmost in security for several reasons.

Firstly, it’s much more difficult to fake a fingerprint than it is to fake a keycard or even a key fob. Secondly, an intruder is going to have a very hard time guessing a fingerprint pattern, more so than a numerical code.

Finally, and thankfully, it’s pretty hard to leave your fingerprints at home. That means that you won’t have to give out extra key cards or have your employees share them. Both of these situations can lead to a data-breach.
